Best Travel Gear to Take Travelling
This list of travel gear essentials covers a wide range of tools that support me during my travels. They all help me travel better. This list contains only my favourite, most trusted products that I travel with. I haven’t included the best travel gear for men or the best travel gear for women as all the items are for every traveller.
RFID Travel Wallet
Kicking off my list of essential things to pack for travelling is a travel wallet. This was one of the first travel accessories I ever bought myself. They are the best for keeping all my travel documents, money and credit cards all in the one convenient place so I know where they are at all times. I have updated mine a number of times now as they get a lot of use. My latest has the RFID blocking shield material that helps protect from identity theft.

Travel Adaptor Plug
I never leave home without my travel plug adaptor. This is because I pack electrical items for all my trips. It lets me plug in to use all my electrical items wherever I go. That can be in Australia, Europe, Asia or the Americas as the travel plug adaptor has all the prongs for different countries. My newest one has USB ports as well. So if you need to blow dry your hair or work online while living and travelling abroad, then definitely have a travel plug adaptor packed in your luggage.

Packing Cubs
I recently discovered packing cubes and now never leave home without them. Basically packing cubes can revolutionise the way you pack for your travels. You can use different cubes to categorise your items into the cubes making your items easier to find. No more hunting through your bag to find anything as the loose chaos in your bag is now organised.

Powerbank or Portable Charger
There is nothing worse than one of your gadgets’ batteries dying on you when you least want it to. You are just about to take that award winning photograph and bam, you camera runs out of battery. Don’t let this happen by having power on tap with a powerbank. I started with a powerbank of 10,000mAh but have recently upgraded to a 20,000mAh powerbank which provides me with the extra charge I need to keep my devices charged.

Electronic Organiser Bag
I’m a bit of an organising freak. Yes, I like to be organised when I travel. It lets me find things easier and just makes my life easier when I travel. If you travel with a lot of tech and electrical items like a phone, camera, laptop, iPad, etc. you will probably have a lot of chords and adaptors, like I do. I now keep mine all together in the one place – in an electronic organiser bag – too easy!

Neck Pillow
I always wanted to carry a neck pillow with me but always thought they looked ridiculous, until now. Possibly because you get to that point where you don’t care what other travellers think anymore. You realise it is about comfort when you have been travelling a long time. So I love having a neck pillow for those times I will be spending on long trips, particularly on long-haul flights. My neck pillow really does help me sleep and I don’t wake up with a sore neck.

Toiletry Bag
Toiletry bags are so convenient and they help keep me organised by letting me keep all my toiletries in the one place. By categorising my toiletries in the compartments I never loose them in my bags. So I can find my toothpaste and toothbrush straight away because they are together. And no wet or sticky garments for me cause I’ve forgotten to put a lid on securely! If there are any leaks I can conveniently wipe anything off my waterproof toiletry bag. Plus, because it is waterproof, it keep all my toiletries dry. And definitely get one with a hook at the top as it is so useful to hang it up while you are in the shower.

Shampoo and Conditioner Bars
When I first heard about solid shampoo and conditioner bars I thought ‘ewwww’ but you know what, I tried them and love them for a number of reasons. Firstly they help to reduce my plastic waste. Secondly they take up less space in my luggage. Thirdly I don’t have to worry about those liquid rules and regulations while travelling. And lastly, they fit perfectly in my toiletry bag. I’ve tried a few different shampoo and conditioner bars but the one I really like is the unscented bar by Whiff.

Quick Drying Travel Towel
We can’t always stay in accommodation that provides free towels and leaves a chocolate on the pillow each night. That is why I always travel with my own towel. The one I prefer is lightweight and quick drying. No more wet towels shuvved in the bag wetting everything else! Packing cubes have helped with that but also having my favourite travel towel, this one by Wise Owl Outfitters.

Jewellery Bag Organiser
Jewellery bags are great, particularly if you travel with a lot of jewellery. I love ear rings and rings and some can be quite small so my jewellery bag comes in handy to keep them safe. I rarely loose any ear rings now!

Spork and Collapsable Cooking Utensils
Depending on the travel I will be doing, and the accommodation I will be staying in, I often take my spork and collapsable cooking utensils. These space saving utensils let me cook my own meals while travelling which helps me save bucks to be spent on other things.

Coffee Maker
If you are a coffee lover like me then you will love this portable espresso maker by Wacaco. I have only recently purchased one so cannot give you a glowing report – yet! But so far so good.

Flip Flops or Thongs
One of favourite items on my essential travel gear list to take travelling, depending on where you come from, you may call these by a different name. I know them as thongs and they are wonderful to wear on your feet when you go to the shower or beach. It doesn’t matter if they get wet because they dry in no time. They are just great to protect the bottom of your feet from rough ground and hopefully off any ‘fungus’ or yucky stuff growing on the bottom of a shower!

Reusable Water Bottle
I drink a lot of water and I prefer for it to be cold so I never travel without my reusable water bottle. When I fill up my water bottle myself I know what water I have put in it and hopefully it is fresh and clean with no nasties, unlike if I bought some water or was served it in a restaurant. Having my own water also saves me from having to buy tons of bottled water. This not only saves me money, but it is environmentally friendly, and that makes me feel better!

Portable Doorstop (or Doorstop Alarm)
Safety is probably one of your biggest concerns when travelling. How many times have you hopped into bed and looked over at the door thinking that door lock doesn’t look overly secure? Me, many times! This is why I travel with a portable doorstop or doorstop alarm. There are two types, the portable doorstop prevents entry into a room, while the doorstop alarm emits sounds that will wake you from your slumber.

Locks
As well as a door alarm, travelling with locks are another way to protect yourself and your luggage. Locks are handy devices that can lot hostel lockers, gym lockers and your luggage. Ensure any locks you buy are TSA approved, otherwise they can be cut off your luggage. And a tip is to choose a code lock rather than a lock you lock with a key – keys are just too easy to misplace or lose!

Collapsable Day Bag
Lastly on my essential travel gear list is a collapsable day bag to carry many of my favourite items. It comes in so handy at times having a bag that collapses or rolls up so not to take up much room. And then it can carry so much for a day out – camera, laptop, food, etc. Or I can pull it out if I purchase something that needs carrying, particularly now that many countries are removing giving you a bag after a purchase.

Now You Know The Best Travel Items
It’s amazing how a well-packed bag with useful travel items can help make travel more enjoyable. There are so many items I could have put on my essential travel gear list here but I have included the best travel gear on this list that help me travel better. I’d love to hear what your favourite travel gear is in the comments.
Love these travel gear ideas – I never knew about that on-the-go espresso maker but now I totally one as a caffeine addict!
You won’t regret it. I love my coffee so being able to have one anytime is ideal.
Great ideas, and the portable coffee maker looks perfect!
Sounds like you are a person after my own heart – a coffee lover too! I love this coffee maker.
Oh I have been meaning to get the packing cubes- these sound so sensible. I loved your entire list actually and the excellent way you have reasoned out the importance, I might end up buying stuff now 😉
Packing Cubes are just the best – you won’t regret it!
All very important items, especially the tech gadgets and accessories. I also love the travel towels. So handy to take everywhere.
I have discovered all these items to be very important and useful which is why they made my list. Glad you think they are good too.
I’m using the majority of these (the first 10 items on the list) an FCC they have been a game changer for me.
