In reply to Mel. I like the walking tours also but find they only cover a certain area and not a lot of the area like the bus. HoHos are great if you don't like walking!

I once did a “be a tourist” day with my friends in Mexico City where Im from and we took one HoHo and it was the highlight of our day! Great recommendations!

I always doing the free walking tours for an intro to a new city, but you’re definitely selling me on the bus. You certainly cover more ground this way!

Yes I totally agree with you! These buses are so perfect when it’s your first time in a city and you’re short on time or nervous about exploring on your own. I just did one in Cape Town a few months again and it was the perfect intro to the city.

I’m generally not a fan of these in big cities, as I prefer to wander my way around town, finding places beyond the major sites. That said, I really like your idea of taking the entire tour first to get your bearings on the city, then coming back to the places you’re most interested in.

Even if I am all for “slow travel,” I have to say that the hop-on and off buses are real lifesavers, especially when you have limited time in a big city. They’re reliable, cheap, and give you the chance to see everything!
