In reply to Shalini. Thank you for your kind words. I lived in Japan for a while and experienced different accommodation types. Japanese style were my favourite as they let me immerse myself in living in Japan.

Yeah, pod accommodation can be quite clostrophobic – I don’t stay in them – I prefer a hotel room.

Having not been to Japan yet I think I would like to stay in a more traditional type of hotel rather than hostels for the unique experience.

Pods sound interesting, but I think that I wouldn’t like not having a window. I would feel locked up when going to bed. Ryokans sound really good to stay at.

I would like to try a Pod, but I’m not sure if I’d feel claustrophobic or not. The Pods are a great option for those travelling in Japan though.

What a fabulously researched post Sharyn. I almost want to pack my bags and travel to Japan, something I have been wanting to do since a long time. I also thought the capsule pods looks claustrophobic and not to mention less private. The bit about temple stays was gorgeous and I would love to try out one atleast, whenever I can travel there next. I have stayed in a backpacker’s hostel and loved the experience a lot.

You have captured the essence of every kind of stays with all the high and low points elaborated upon in detail. This is a fantastically done post for sure.

Pods are such an interesting concept. I haven’t stayed in one (or been to Japan) but I am sure it must have huge pros if you are just needing a bed to sleep in. Thanks for all the useful information regarding hotels, inns and hostels too.
