Millions of people fly every day. And in we trust the planes we fly in. Though occasionally, things happen.
On Friday 10 July 2026, a Ryanair aircraft made an emergency landing in Thessaloniki, Greece. The plane took off from Thessaloniki in Greece and was flying to Memmingen in Germany. It was diverted back when a passenger was partially sucked out of a window.
Seems shortly after takeoff from Thessaloniki, the Boeing 737 was forced to make an emergency landing when a piece of one of the engines broke off and flew into one of its windows, smashing it.
It is reported the passenger sitting next to the window was partially sucked through the window and became dislodged. Also reported, the man’s head and shoulders were outside the aircraft before fellow passengers pulled him back in. PHEW!!
The Serbian national who was partially sucked through the window was transferred to the AHEPA University General Hospital in Thessaloniki. Thankfully, not facing any life-threatening injuries.
The plane landed safely and passengers on the flight were returned to the terminal.
A video posted on social media appeared to show fan blades missing from one of the damaged Boeing 737 engines. A Greek airport source advised the aircraft is on the ground with investigators looking into the incident.
