Who wouldn’t love to be working from their computer while on the beach? Or sitting in a bar or cafe with a beach view? I can say, I would love to be. Is this realistic you ask? Well it could be.

Whether you are a digital nomad looking for your next location or are a remote online-worker able to work online from home, you might want to consider your next work environment. Is that working from an island offering great climate where you could be swimming in the ocean and walking along golden sands every day? Then enjoying good food and warm nights. Well, I have done a bit of research and have discovered there are 8 Caribbean islands remote work visa programs. Without further ado, if you are looking to move abroad to live and work abroad somewhere, why not live, work and play in the Caribbean.

Here are the Caribbean islands with Remote Work Visa Programs to consider.

 

What is a Remote Work Visa?

 

Firstly, what exactly is a remote work visa? You probably know if you are looking for this type of visa, but let me explain anyway. A remote work visa, sometimes referred to as a digital nomad visa or temporary resident visa allows a person the opportunity to live and work in a foreign country for an extended period. The work of course, must be online and mostly for a company outside of the country issuing the visa or for yourself.

Good news is there is no age limit on the visa like there is with a working holiday visa. Some of the visas are happy to have family digital nomads apply. But when applying for the visa you do need to prove you are making an income from online work to receive the visa.

 

Caribbean Digital Nomad or Remote Work Visa Programs

 

Most Caribbean destinations have long since allowed the majority of their visitors to stay for 30 to 90 days without a visa. Some like Jamaica allow for an extension of stay while on the island. After the pandemic (which is far behind us now), to help kick start economies severely impacted by the virus many countries, the Caribbean countries included introduced a digital nomad and or remote work visa.

The aim of the visa is to attract people who will stay for up to 12 months and spend their hard earned online cash to inject into their economy. This is because you will need somewhere to live, require utilities and spend your money on food and going out. All you need to do is prove you can support yourself during your stay and not be a burden on any country’s systems such as the health system.

As you can see from the map there are many countries making up the Caribbean. But only eight at the moment have a remote work or digital nomad visa available for you to live, work and play in the Caribbean.

1. Work From Anguilla

Launched: August 2020
Application Fee: US$2,000 for individuals and US$3,000 for families (main applicants plus three dependents) plus US$250 for each additional family member.
Visa Length: up to one year.

2. Antigua Nomad Digital Residence (NDR) Visa

Launched: September 2020
Application Fee: US$1,500 for individuals, US$2,000 for couples and US$3,000 for families of three persons or over
Visa Length: 2 years. Valid from the arrival date in Antigua and Barbuda and for two years after that.

3. Barbados Welcome Stamp

Launched: July 2020
Application Fee: US2,000 for individuals and US$3,000 for families.
Visa Length: 12 months. Valid from arrival date for 12 months.

4. Bahamas Extended Access Travel Stay (BEATS)

Launched: October 2020
Application Fee: US$1,025 for work professionals and US$525 for college students inclusive of the application and permit fee.
Visa Length: Valid for up to 12 months from the date of issues. The Bahamas remote worker visa is renewable on a case-by-case basis for a maximum period of up to three years.

5. Work From Bermuda Certificate

Launched: August 2020
Application Fee: US$263
Visa Length: 12 months and renewable on a case by case basis.

Application Fee: US$1,469 per annum for 2 persons plus US$500 per dependent, per annum
Visa Length: 24 months from the date of arrival.

Are You Ready to Be a Digital Nomad in the Caribbean?

 

If you need a little motivation, just think of enjoying a beer or two at the beach at the end of your day. Throw in the warm weather, decent Wifi and reasonable cost of living, in my opinion, if you are a digital nomad or a remote worker home is where the laptop is.
