I managed to spend six weeks in Japan for about a third of the cost (non Ritz accommodation). London is just prohibitively expensive and for me has lost all attraction now its out of EU and prices go through the roof

Yes. You need to find the best place to live in London as you don’t want, or need, to keep on moving. Considering location, budget and local amenities are a good idea to help get your new home sorted.
