VISAS explained
To live work play travel abroad you need two things. First a passport, and second, the appropriate visa to enter another country. Now there are different visas for different types of travel. They include, but not limited to, a general tourist visa or holiday visa, working holiday visa, digital nomad visa, student visa and work permit, to name a few. I will do my best to explain them on this visas explained page. Particularly working holiday visas explained and digital nomad visas explained as these are the two most popular visa options allowing us to travel, live and work abroad. Read on!
NOTE: I am not a visa agency and cannot help you get a visa. I only provide information on what visas are available. To get a visa you will need to apply to the High Commission, Consulate or Embassy of the country you wish to travel, live and work abroad in.
But First, What is a Passport? And Why Do You Need One?
A passport is an official document issued by the country or your origin and is your identity. They mostly look like a little book. You will need a passport to travel internationally. Without one you cannot travel to travel, live and work abroad. Apply for a passport through your country’s government department that issues them. And when you have a passport you can then apply for a visa which is usually stamped into your passport. So that is one of the reasons why you need a passport.
Visas explained
What is a visa? And why do you need one? The word visa means ‘to see’, so the officials of a country have seen your documents and decided to provide a visa to allow you in. A visa is usually stamped in your passport though many countries are introducing e-visas. There are different visas allowing you to live work and play abroad. The most popular that allow people to live and work in another country include the work permit, student visa, working holiday visa and digital nomad visa. Tourist Visas
The most popular type of visa that people apply for is a tourist visa or often called the holiday visa allowing travel to, and in another country. This visa usually allows a stay of up to 90 days to sightsee and travel around. Each country issues their own holiday visa. In the case of Europe, you can apply for the Schengen Visa allowing travel through a number of European countries.
Working Holiday Visas
The working holiday visa is one of the most popular ways to live and work in another country. A working holiday visa is available to young people aged 18-30 (sometimes 35) years of age. Digital Nomad Visas
Digital nomad visas are being introduced by many countries. But what is a digital nomad visa and how to find one? They are to entice people who work online remotely to come and live and work in their country to continue to work online. And when you work online and live in a country you are injecting money into their economy. A digital nomad visa if granted could see you spending 1 – 4 years in that country. Some countries are offering digital nomad visas not only to solo online entrepreneurs but allow digital nomad families. And there is no age limit on a digital nomad visa.
